Currently most villages have a problem with garbage collection and pollution. There are many different reasons behind this; legislation, lack of funds and outdated recycling facilities. Garbage can often be found in all over a village. Today 90% of the wastes in Ukraine is buried in landfills around the country. The rest is burnt. The Government of Ukraine has taken measures and are currently implementing a number of initiatives on a national level. Among them is the project of the “Clean City” under the president of Ukraine. All these initiatives are very positive for the improvement of waste management in Ukraine. Still many of them will not affect the lives in the villages, where the problems can be smaller in terms of tonnage, but equally disturbing for the people. We believe that every effort made to make the Ukrainian country side clean and beautiful is important and therefore we will initiate the  project to assist villages to get rid of their garbage and waste in a safe and sustainable manner. This will improve the welfare of the communities and prevent further damages to the environment. In practical terms the DV-fund works together with village councils will develop a plan to clean up their village and educate the people on waste management in order to reduce waste volumes.
